Trustee Bowen-Eyre declares pecuniary interest

In the minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on April 5, 2011, the trustees moved in camera at 8:55pm. The only information we have of what then occurred is given in the minutes as:

During the in-camera portion of the meeting, Trustee Bazinet, Bowen-Eyre and Taylor declared a pecuniary interest with regard to the Student Fees Review and the Student Transportation Plan and left the meeting. This left three Trustees in the boardroom which is less than the four required for a quorum; therefore no further motions or decisions were considered.

Chair Cochrane declared the meeting adjourned at 11:32 p.m.

From this we know that:

1. Trustees and administration discussed student fees and the student transportation plan in private before the reports were presented to the public. Student fees were approved on April 19. They were originally on the consent agenda (which would mean that they were to be approved without question or debate), but were put on the action items agenda at the beginning of the meeting. Transportation fees were supposed to have been approved on May 3, but were pulled from the agenda and will be done at the next board meeting.

2. Trustees Bazinet, Bowen-Eyre and Taylor declared a pecuniary interest and were not present during this two and a half hour private discussion on fees. These three trustees all have children in CBE schools, as does Trustee King, although her child is in Grade 12.
